What to do when a claim occurs...

Auto:  Never admit the accident was your fault.  Trade information with the other party including name, address, phone number, description of the car and the insurance information including the company and policy number.  If any injury occurs call 911 for assistance.  If there is physical damage to the vehicle call the police.  Do not remove vehicles until the police arrive. Call your agent as soon as possible to report the accident.

Property:  Your first responsibility is to protect your property against further damage by what ever means necessary.  Contact your agent at once to report the claim.  Take photos of the damage.  In the event of smoke or water damage, please contact a restoration company for professional assistance.  Refer to my links section for referrals.  Attempting to do the resoration your self could result in additional damage.  Mold is dangerous and can make you very ill. Do not attempt this yourself.  If the situation could cause physical harm to you or others, please take care of yourselves.  Property can be replaced, people cannot.

Liability:  In the event that you even suspect there may be a claim or an incident that could arise in a claim report it at once to your agent.  Liability claims can be tricky.  Depending on what form of a liability policy you have, this could be critical to your coverage.  Do not admit fault in any situation.  The insurance companies have attorneys to handle this type of a situation.  Collect all the documentation you possible can to assist your case in being a strong one.
